Tiong Bahru

The OG neighbourhood of Singapore, Tiong Bahru was built on the remains of a cemetery. The earliest walk-up apartments, now conserved, date back to before World War II. Today, it is a hip, gentrified neighbourhood, with charming, shaded walks, low housing density and delectable food.

Over three episodes, this series highlights the history and iconic architecture of Singapore's oldest housing estate. From Tiong Poh Road to the Monkey God Temple to Seng Poh Garden, you'll discover stories from and about residents, the end of the songbirds and unexpected encounters with a kitchen god.
